How do I make an appointment at Escape?
You can:
Do I need to do anything before I arrive?
We would advise you to leave any valuable jewellery at home because some treatments require you to remove it before the treatment commences.
Do I need to bring anything with me?
No.
Is there parking nearby?
Yes, there is a large pay and display car park opposite Escape. Please ensure you allow plenty of time for your appointment as you do not want to feel rushed in order to get back to your car, especially if you have had a relaxing treatment as you may want to sit and chill in the relax area before you depart.
There is also parking on the road which is free all day.
Do I need to arrive early when it is my first appointment?
Yes, we would recommend you arrive 10-15 minutes prior to your first appointment, as we require you to fill out a questionnaire regarding your health and current skincare routine. This enables us to provide you with professional advice about the treatment you will be receiving and any homecare recommendations. It also gives you a chance to ask any questions you may have.
On the rarest of occasions some clients may have a contra indication to the treatment; usually the result of recent injuries, illness or medical conditions and unfortunately the treatment will not be carried out. In some case, it may be necessary to consult your GP before proceeding with the treatment.
I feel nervous about having my first treatment. What can I do?
We understand that it can be daunting to come in and have a treatment carried out by a stranger. All of our staff are highly trained to make you feel at ease and answer any questions or queries you may have. Those treatments that require you to remove items of clothing will be explained to you and you will be left to get undressed on your own. When the therapist enters back into the room you will be sufficiently covered up and ready to enjoy your treatment.
Can I purchase the products that were used in the treatment for use at home?
Yes you can. After your treatment, you will always be given advice regarding what products will be most suitable for your needs. We have an extensive range of products for sale in our retail/reception area for you to purchase.
How can I pay?
You can pay cash, debit/credit card, cheque (need cheque guarantee card) and Escape Gift Vouchers.
Can I rebook my next appointment?
Yes, it is best to book your next appointment immediately after your treatment as it will guarantee you the exact day and time you require, especially if it is an evening or weekend appointment you need.
Do you sell gift vouchers?
Yes we do. Gift vouchers can either be purchased in store or over the telephone for any amount or treatment you wish to buy. Please have your card details ready if you are going to make a call.
Skin Type and Product Information
What is a sensitised skin as opposed to a sensitive skin?
Anyone can be affected by a sensitised skin. A sensitised skin is the result of environmental assaults inflicted on the body, the natural ageing process, incorrect product and cosmetic use and poor diet but is the most treatable whereas a sensitive skin is genetic and is very difficult to treat but is extremely controllable. Both skin types have very similar symptoms such as, stinging, redness, burning, itching and flushing, however, a sensitized skin cannot be seen by the naked eye compared to a sensitive skin which is generally very fair due to a lower amount of pigment in the skin and the skin can look extremely transparent as it is thinner. Someone who is truly sensitive will not only be more susceptible to blushing but may experience severe hay fever and asthma and be prone to allergies.
If you feel this is your skin type and would like advice, please book in for a free 15 minute Face Mapping appointment where we will conduct a thorough consultation and analysis the skin. (Please refer to the Face and Body Mapping section for further information)
When your skin is healthy, your sensitised skin condition will be minimised. The correct homecare regime and professional skin treatments coupled with the right life style choices are fantastic ways to treat your sensitised skin.

Do I have dry or dehydrated skin?
Dry skin lacks oil whereas dehydrated skin lacks moisture in the outermost layer of the epidermis (top layer of skin). In general, the water content of the cells in the epidermis should be about 10% anything below 10% is considered dehydrated. The symptoms for both dry and dehydrated skins are often irritated, itchy and inflamed. Other symptoms of a dry skin can include a feeling of tightness or tautness, looks and feels rough rather than smooth, fine lines appear more prominent and you may have flaking, scaling or cracked skin.
The causes of dry dehydrated skin are genetic ageing, life style, over cleansing of the skin and the environment and are very treatable when combined with the correct home care products and life style changes.
If you feel this is your skin type and would like advice, please book in for a free 15 minute Face Mapping appointment where we will conduct a thorough consultation and analysis the skin. (Please refer to the Face and Body Mapping section for further information)

Do I have premature ageing skin?
We all genetically age from our mid 20’s, however, signs of the natural ageing process do not begin to show on our faces until decades later. Premature ageing is the unnatural acceleration of the natural ageing process and is brought on by ourselves through our life style choices such as smoking, poor diet, high stress levels and not protecting ourselves against the damaging effects of UV exposure whether on holiday abroad or at home.
The sun is your skins worst enemy, therefore, protecting the skin daily with a minimum of SPF15 is extremely important to protect the skin from premature ageing.
If you feel this is your skin type and would like advice, please book in for a free 15 minute Face Mapping appointment where we will conduct a thorough consultation and analysis the skin. (Please refer to the Face and Body Mapping section for further information)

What causes oily acne skin?
Sebum (otherwise referred to as oil) production is controlled by the androgen hormone. Oil is made in the sebaceous gland where it works its way up the hair follicle to the skin’s surface and empties. When this process is working efficiently, oils lubricate the skin therefore protecting it from environmental assaults and maintaining a healthy skin.
If the androgen hormone is imbalanced (puberty, time of the month or menopause) it causes an overproduction in oil, giving the skin a slick, greasy appearance.
In some cases, excess oil production creates acne because the oils hold onto dead skins cells that would have normally shed off. The hair follicle then becomes blocked with dead skin cells and oil, oxygen cannot enter the follicle, therefore, resulting in bacteria breeding causing swelling, itching and redness around the hair follicle and hence, acne occurs.
If you feel this is your skin type and would like advice, please book in for a free 15 minute Face Mapping appointment where we will conduct a thorough consultation and analysis the skin. (Please refer to the Face and Body Mapping section for further information)

How can exfoliation improve my skin?
Exfoliation is the process of removing dead skin cells. By removing dead skin cells you are improving the health of your skin. The skin will look brighter, feel smoother to the touch, improve the tone of the skin, prevents premature ageing and most importantly, allows the other skincare products that you are using on your skin to work more effectively. It is a known fact that the skin produces one million skin cells per minute which equates to over 5 billion per day!
It is extremely important not to over exfoliate as this can and may sensitise the skin. If unsure always seek the advice of a professional skincare therapist.
If you feel you would like more advice on exfoliation, please book in for a free 15 minute Face Mapping appointment where we will conduct a thorough consultation and analysis the skin. (Please refer to the Face and Body Mapping section for further information)

All our body treatments begin with a body exfoliation to encourage penetration of the products.
What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is a pressure point massage of the feet. The feet are divided into zones; relating to different areas of the body and worked on accordingly to bring your body back into homeostasis.
What is Indian Head Massage?
Indian Head Massage is a massage of the back, shoulders, arms, neck, scalp and face. It is renowned for relieving symptoms of stress, migraines, sinus problems and promotes the growth of lustrous hair. It is an extremely relaxing and de-stressing treatment to receive.
What are Hopi Ear Candles?

The heat from the candle stimulates blood flow to the head and neck which encourages healing and promotes, clearer thinking, alertness and concentration. It is also calming, relaxing and rebalancing.
Do I have to take all of my clothes off for a massage or body treatment?
When you arrive for your treatment, you will be shown into the treatment room where your massage or body treatment will be taking place. The treatment will be thoroughly explained to you including which items of clothing to remove or keep on. All massage or body treatments are carried out with briefs on and in some cases you may be required to where paper thongs or boxer shorts for men. If you are having a back, neck and shoulder massage, there is no need to take your lower-half clothing off if you do not desire. Obviously, the area to be treated will be exposed however, the rest of your body will be covered throughout the treatment and the therapist will move the towels in order to work on different areas of the body. Ladies should remove their bra and tie long hair back when having a massage/body treatment so that it does not get in the way during the treatment.
You will not have to take off any clothing if you are receiving a Reflexology or Hopi Ear Candles treatment.
Hands and Feet Information
Do you do any form of nail extensions or overlays?
No we do not. We believe that with regular manicures, your nails will grow and improve in appearance and can look as effective as nail extensions. Nail extensions are also very damaging to the nail, especially if they are poorly applied!
How long will the nail polish take to dry?
Because we apply 4 layers of polish (1 basecoat, 2 coats of colour and 1 topcoat) it will naturally take a while to dry. We always finish the paint with a quick dry oil, which will seal the topcoat and make the nails feel dry after 20-30 minutes. However, you have to bear in mind that the other layers will still need to dry so we recommend that you are careful for a good couple of hours and do not do any cleaning or sports until the following day.
Can I wear enclosed shoes after receiving a pedicure with a nail paint?
No you cannot. As explained above, the polish needs to dry thoroughly to prevent smudging of the polish. We would recommend that you wear open toe shoes or flip flops.
My feet have extremely hard skin on them. Can you get rid of the skin for me?
Unfortunately we cannot. The treatment itself does involve an exfoliation of the foot, however, we are not trained to cut away hard skin so we would recommend that you visit a Chiropodist first and then we will give you a relaxing and beautifying foot treatment after.
Waxing Information
What are the differences between an Eyebrow Shape and an Eyebrow Tidy?
Your first treatment will always be classed as an Eyebrow Shape as we do not know you and want to determine what the best shape will be for you. If you then re-book in every 3-4 weeks for your next treatment, it will be classed as an Eyebrow Tidy.
Do you wax, tweezer, sugar or thread the Eyebrows?
At Escape, we wax the majority of the hairs and then tweezer the brows into shape.
What kind of wax do you use?
We use Tea Tree wax as it is antiseptic and healing on the skin. Should you be allergic to Tea tree, please let us know and we will use a traditional honey wax on you to prevent any allergic reactions from occurring.
There are different styles of bikini waxing these days. I am confused........Please explain?
There are different ways to wax a bikini line. There is the traditional bikini wax and then there are the more intimate waxing treatments. Below is a description of the most common methods:
Bikini – Hair is removed from where the hair growth occurs in the bikini area on the upper thigh up to the knicker line.
High Bikini - Hair is removed from where the hair growth occurs in the bikini area on the upper thigh and just past the knicker line.
Brazilian – Hair is removed as above and beyond the knicker line, leaving approximately 2.5cm (1inch) wide strip of hair, otherwise referred to as “the landing strip”.
Playboy – All hair is removed from the pubic, buttock and anal area, leaving a pencil strip of hair.
Hollywood – All hair is completely removed.
Male
Back, Sac and Crack – Hair is removed from the lower back, penis, buttocks, scrotum and anal area.
Out of the above mentioned treatments, which do you offer?
At present, we only offer the Bikini, High Bikini and Brazilian style waxing.
What should I wear when I am having a Bikini or Brazilian Wax?
Please do not wear your best underwear! High legged knickers or thongs are best. We do have paper thongs for those clients who are having a Brazilian wax and would prefer not to wear their own.
Why does my skin go red after waxing?
Often the skin will be red and rashy in appearance after waxing. This is a common reaction and is caused by blood coming to the surface after the hairs have been removed. Any redness of the skin should disappear within 24 – 48 hours.
What is the aftercare advice?
When you have any waxing treatment, you always take off a top layer of skin. Therefore, it is important that you follow the aftercare advice given to you at the end of the treatment for 24-48 hours so that you do not cause further irritation or a reaction to the skin.
We would recommend that you do not:
- Use a sun bed, sun bathe in the sun or have a fake tan applied to the areas that have been waxed
- Go swimming
- Go for a sauna or a steam
- Go in the gym because sweat will irritate the skin
- Have a really hot shower or bath
- Apply shower gels, cleansers or moisturisers that are perfumed
- Exfoliate the skin
- Apply makeup on any facial areas that have been waxed unless it is a mineral based makeup.
Eyelash and Eyebrow Tinting Information
What is a patch test and why does one need to be carried out?
A patch test is carried out on the skin behind the ear or inside of the elbow to determine whether you will have an allergy to the tint used. The test is required 48 hours before your first treatment. If you have any irritation, redness, lumps or bumps unfortunately the tint will not be performed on you.
How long will the tint last?
The tint will last around 4-6 weeks depending on your skincare routine. Makeup removers can take their toll on the tint.

We use the Bodyography line and they have a Mineral range called Oxyplex. It is a professional make up range and is used widely in America, especially amongst the makeup artists to the rich and famous.
